3 Signs That You Need A New Toilet

Posted on: 6 July 2016

Even though toilets can last for many years, there eventually comes the time that you need to replace them. Luckily, toilets are relatively affordable and can be installed quickly and easily by a plumbing professional; the average cost of having a new toilet installed is about $361. These are a few signs that it's time to buy a new toilet for your home.

1. It's Become Impossible to Clean

A dirty-looking toilet can be quite an eyesore in the bathroom and can make the whole room feel dirty, even if you know that the toilet has been scrubbed thoroughly. Hard water, long periods of allowing water to stand in the bowl without flushing (such as if the toilet has not been used much over an extended period of time), using the wrong cleaning products or just plain time can all make a toilet look dirty. Once you find that you just can't seem to get your toilet clean no matter how hard you try, it's time to replace.

2. The Tank is Cracked

Even though a plumber can replace many of the parts in the toilet tank, a tank that is actually cracked itself is going to be difficult to fix as a long-term solution. Once the tank is cracked, you have to worry about leaks, which can cause a big mess and damage to the flooring and walls in your bathroom. If there is a cracked tank, it's typically better to replace the toilet completely.

3. Your Toilet Was Made Before 1994

The Energy Policy Act of 1992 went into action in 1994. Since then, toilet manufacturers have been required to limit the amount of water consumption that their toilets use. Any toilet that was manufactured and installed after the date that the Act went into action must have a maximum flush volume of 1.6 gallons, although many modern toilets have been designed to use much less water than this. If your toilet was manufactured before 1994, it is probably time to replace it with a water-saving model that cut your water bills and use less wasted water. Even if your toilet was manufactured after this time, however, you may want to replace it with a model that uses even less water if it is an older model.

As you can see, there are a few signs that can tell you when it's time to replace your toilet. If any of these three things apply to your toilet, or if you would just like to try something different in your bathroom, contact a plumber such as Diamond Head Plumbing Inc to learn more.

Avoiding Plumbing Problems

After we purchased a brand new place, I was blown away with how many plumbing problems it had. It seemed like every time we turned around, there was another issues with a sink, a toilet, or a shower. After doing a little research, we discovered that the home had been having trouble with plumbing for quite some time, and we knew that we needed to fix things. We decided to have a professional plumber come in and completely overhaul our system, and that decision was absolutely the right one to make. This blog is dedicated to avoiding plumbing issues the first time around.
