Plumbing Issues You Shouldn't Ignore

Posted on: 8 June 2016

Life is frequently hectic, so it's easy to ignore certain plumbing issues that are annoying but don't seem all that serious. In your rush to leave the house each morning, you may simply curse at the slow running drain or dripping faucet and promise to take care of it later only to forget once again. Although these problems may not seem that important, they can turn into serious issues if you do not take action.

Slow-Running Drains

A slow-running drain is extremely annoying. First, you have to look at the dirty water slowly making its way out of the sink basin. Then you have to rinse off the nasty residue that clings to the side of the sink. If the problem is limited to one sink, you should be able to clear the problem with a plunger or a natural drain cleaning solution. One such cure is pouring ½ cup of table salt and ½ cup of baking soda into the drain. Follow these ingredients with one cup of vinegar. After you let the solution sit for approximately 15 minutes, flush with hot water. If you do not take action, your drain can easily become totally clogged and require a visit from the plumber.

If all of your drains are slow running, you may have a clog in your septic system, something that can lead to a basement flooded with sewage. When every drain is sluggish, call for help immediately before you have ruined flooring and other cleanup issues on your hands.

Dripping Faucets

A relentlessly dripping faucet can be hard on your mental health. You may have spent a few nights listening to the steady plop, plop, plop, swearing to fix it the next day. Of course, the next day can be hectic, and you may not think about it again until bedtime. In addition to challenging your mental health, a leaking faucet can run up your water bill. Experts say that a dripping faucet can waste up to 1,041 gallons a year. Although that may not cost you a great deal of money, it does steal water from the ecosystem, a serious concern.

Seemingly benign plumbing issues can turn into real problems if you ignore them. Your plumbing system might be damaged or you may lose sleep and waste water. You are always better off when you address these issues promptly and with the help of a plumbing professional like Mr Rooter when necessary.
